Amari has two roles: Owner and Staff. The right role depends on what each person actually needs to do โ and equally important, what they should not be able to do (like seeing sales totals or changing prices).
The 30-second summary
- Owner โ can do everything
- Staff โ can run the counter and count inventory; can't see money or change settings

Common scenarios
"My head cashier needs to see sales totals at the end of the day"
Print the shift report at close โ it includes total sales, payment breakdown, and top products. That gives the cashier enough info to brief the next shift without making them an owner.
"My business partner needs to see Reports but can't change anything"
Make them an Owner. Amari currently has two roles (Owner and Staff). A future "Manager" or "Read-only Owner" role is on the roadmap but not built yet. For now, partners who need full visibility get the Owner role.
"A staff member is leaving โ should I delete or deactivate?"
Deactivate. Their historical sales records stay attached to their name in your reports and audit log. Deletion would orphan all their sales. Deactivation immediately blocks login (email + PIN) without losing data.
"Can two cashiers be active at the same time?"
You can have multiple staff clocked in at the same time on a shift, but only one is the active cashier (whose name appears on receipts). You can switch the active cashier any time during the shift via the POS staff panel.
Changing a role
From Settings โ Team, tap a staff member to open their detail panel. Use the Role dropdown to switch them between Owner and Staff. Changes take effect immediately on their next page navigation. They'll see (or lose) the new menu items.
Don't make everyone an owner
The temptation to "just make everyone an owner" is real, but it defeats the whole point of having roles. If a cashier is an owner, they can see your branch's profit margins, edit prices, and access billing. Use Staff for staff, Owner only for actual business owners.
